October In-Person ACBA Meeting: Brian R. Johnson, UC Davis
Join us for our in-person monthly meeting! Our speaker will be Dr. Brian Johnson, UC Davis Associate Professor in the Department of Entomology and Nematology. His work at UC Davis examines how honeybee behavior and physiology change across an individual bee’s lifespan, and how age relates to the division of labor within the colony. His research shows that, contrary to the common point of view, worker bees do not simply follow a rigid age-based schedule. Task allocation is flexible and can be influenced by colony conditions and social interactions. Dr. Johnson's research combines behavioral experiments, theoretical models, genetics, and physiology to understand how individual differences contribute to the organization and resilience of honeybee colonies.
Schedule:
- 7:00–7:30: Social time; new beekeeper round table (bring your questions, no matter how basic they seem!)
- 7:30–8:00: Club business, announcements, etc.
- 8:00–9:00: Speaker and questions.
